When it comes to enjoying Taichung’s street food, locals typically prefer to eat on the go or while standing up. It’s not uncommon to see people walking around with a skewer of grilled meat or a hot bowl of noodle soup in hand. To understand the history behind Taichung’s local cuisine and street food, you need to delve into the city’s rich cultural background. Taichung has long been a melting pot of different cultures and traditions, including those of the indigenous Taiwanese, Chinese, and Japanese. Taipei has a handful of night markets for those who want to shop and eat on the streets at night. Not necessarily the healthiest, but the taste is so good. It's been a few years since I've eaten it, but the thought of it 台東必買伴手禮 makes me hungry already. We came across this interesting grilled version of mochi at Dongdamen Night Market in Hualien. This fermented tofu dish has a strong odor that can be off-putting to some people, but its unique taste and texture have won over many fans. It looked like the chef had stuffed fish with cloves of garlic and other condiments, then doused in a thick layer of sea salt to bake. After getting tired of shopping for fashion and various other items, it's time to fill your stomach with culinary hunting. Among the various culinary delights that you can find in Batam, seafood might be the best choice. Considering that Batam is a coastal area, you can enjoy fresh and cheap seafood dishes. If you’re traveling with kids, don’t miss the Science Museum. It has interactive exhibits, anImax Space Theater, and a life-sized dinosaur reconstruction. Even if you’re not traveling with kids, the area around the museum is nice and quiet. Wang Steak is started in Taiwan and has since become Taiwan’s best well known steakhouse chain. I am extremely impressed by Wang Steak when i visited them in Kaohsiung. Their service is excellent and the food is affordable. Overall it is a pleasant dining experience and i would definitely recommend to anyone who are craving for some steak in Taiwan. This handmade sweet confectionery by Chok Kee Confectionery has been around since 1947, and still delights customers to this day. While roti bakar is the main pull here, feel free to try out their other offerings to further complete your meal, such as nasi lemak or their noodle dishes. The 13th annual Taitung Slow Food Festival will be held in Taipei. Moreover, Taitung food culture displays will be set up. The event emphasizes sustainability, using natural materials as food containers and decoration. No single-use cutlery and containers will be used at the event. They’re hollow on the inside and have a deliciously crunchy and chewy consistency. You can find stinky tofu at every night market though a good place to try it in Taipei is at a restaurant called Dai’s House of Unique Stink. From what I’ve read, they’ve had to move shop seven times since opening because of the awful stench. It was our first trip here so I wanted to focus on the traditional, but this hipster side of Tainan is something we’ll definitely be exploring on our next trip to the city. As described in a previous section of this guide, it was formerly known as Fort Zeelandia and served as a major trading post and stronghold for the Dutch army and navy. Today, it’s mostly a park with remnants of the original fort and a museum showcasing important historical events from the Dutch occupation. As you scour the web for places of interest inTaitung, you'll notice that many are in Taitung County, rather than in the city center. In Taitung City, there are several cute little restaurants and craft beer bars at Railway Art Village. The small Taitung Night Market (台東觀光夜市) takes place in front of Sheraton Hotel from Thursday to Saturday. With two nights, base yourself in one of the towns I recommend for two nights and explore the region by scooter or bicycle.
